Wesley, a gorgeous 5-month-old cocker spaniel was brought in as an emergency one day because he was not his normal bouncy self – he was being sick and seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Examination quickly revealed the cause of the problem – he had a twisted testicle. This is a serious emergency and can rapidly progress; as the blood supply to the testicle is cut off, inflammation builds up and can become toxic to the body very quickly. 

The only way to treat him safely was surgery to remove the twisted testicle. Time was of the essence, and after giving him some strong pain killers, he was taken straight to theatre. The operation went smoothly and without complication. Only a few hours after surgery he was up and about, wagging his tail and eating food again – he was much more comfortable!

He stayed overnight for monitoring and pain relief and was back to his normal bouncy self by the morning. He has now made a full recovery!
