Fireworks season is fast approaching

As firework season approaches, it’s important to remember that while we may enjoy the celebrations, our pets often don’t.

The loud bangs, bright flashes, and strong smells can be frightening for both dogs and cats.

Signs Your Pet Is Stressed:

  • Destructive behaviour
  • Hiding or attempting to escape
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Excessive panting or drooling
  • Barking, meowing, or whining

Tips to Help Your Pet:

  • Keep them inside: Ensure pets are safely indoors before fireworks begin, with doors, windows, and pet flaps securely shut.
  • Exercise earlier in the Day: Take dogs for a walk well before fireworks begin, to burn off energy and encourage relaxation. Playtime helps cats, too!
  • Create a safe space: Give your pet access to a quiet, secure area where they feel comfortable. This could be a room with closed windows and curtains to muffle sound and block flashes.
  • Use calming aids: Consider pheromone diffusers, calming treats, or anxiety wraps. Please feel free to call us if you would like to discuss options, we may recommend calming supplements or medication.
  • Avoid leaving them alone: Your calm presence can be reassuring.
  • Mask the noise: Turn on the TV, play soft music, or use white noise to help cover up the sound of fireworks.

ID & Microchipping:

Scared pets may bolt—make sure your pet is microchipped and wearing a collar with up-to-date contact information.

Being prepared can make all the difference. Let’s make fireworks season less stressful for our four-legged family members!
