Preparing your pets for Summer!
Summer’s here and just like us, our pets feel the heat! Here are some easy tips to help keep them cool, happy and safe.
Keep them cool – Make sure your pet always has fresh, cool water – especially on warm days. A shady spot outside or a fan indoors can make a big difference. Cool mats can be a good option for pets and some even love a splash in a shallow paddling pool!

Walk at cooler times – Try walking your dog early in the morning or later in the evening. Pavements can get hot and hurt their paws – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet.

Look out for heat signs – Heavy panting, drooling or acting very tired can be signs your pet is too hot. If you’re worried, bring them into the shade, offer water, and call your vet if they don’t improve.

Keep up with grooming – A good brush helps remove extra fur and keeps your pet cool. But don’t shave certain breeds – some coats protect them from both heat and sunburn!

Apply pet-friendly sunscreen – to the pink ears and noses of pets, as these areas are particularly vulnerable to sun burn and damage.

Stay safe outdoors – If your pet spends a lot of time in the garden, make sure there’s shade and no harmful plants or chemicals. Also, double check their ID tag and microchip info is up to date.

Take extra care with young, elderly, long-haired, overweight or short-nosed dogs as they are at greater risk in hot weather.

Enjoy the sunshine together – and keep it safe!
